She has been here 1 month and has had a lot of stress. 1 pulled from a park to vet for 4 days, food change & vaccines then plane to texas, food change again (due to unable to find same food) kept in her own room with door closed (we have dogs) so she could adjust has a window, couch toys we play with her etc..10 days later spayed, treatment for worms and pain meds as well as flea treatment (no bath though). 7 days later 2nd worm treatment, and then began a suttle change over due to her having diarrhea thinking it could be the food. (1 day attempt) she threw up all over and had diarrhea all over her room 6-8 piles (liquid stool, not water loss stool, could have been the worm medicine could have been the food) returned immediately to old food for 2-3 days still with liquid stool but no vomiting. Vet said try Hills washington $34 bag, but bought it anyway, 3 days later took her to the vet, still with liquid stool. Vet did exam checked stool under microscope said bacteria in stool but no parasites and sent out stool sample that came back OK. vet said she also had ear infection so is now on the following meds for stool Metronidazole 2 times daily & FortiFlora (this is to help the natural intestional flora) I am doing ear washes every other day with antibiotic ear drops 2 times daily. She plays, is active eats drinks, purrs, but cries/growls just before having a liquid stool, her bottom has been sore so i put vaseline on it daily and it is improving. I do love this cat she is 1 year old and weighs 6 lbs (yes very petite) and seems to look better (fillinf out some) since I adopted her. I am limited on funds and she has been to the vet twice now (2 different vets due to the area I live) I am now down to about $48 dollars for gas and food until payday in 1 week. I am willing to use my credit card to get what ever is suggested for her needs. Unfortunately I work 6 days a week and would not be able to take her back to the vet until 1 week from today Saturday July 10th. Any suggestions as to what might be going on and what I should do would be great. Thanks for the help. I hope there is adequate information as to help someone who know about cats what to suggest.
The flagyl and forti flora are correct drugs to try here. It sounds like your cat might be having a flare up of IBD. Other options would include difficult to diagnose parasites like giardia (treat with 7 days of panacure) or, worse, tritrichomonas (no safe treatment). IBD is frustrating and not easily fixed. Sometimes you need to try multiple drugs. I usually warn people that may be the case. Have you tried calling the vet and telling him there is no improvement, is there something else you can try? People do that all of the time and at least 40% of the time, there is something we can try. Things like tylosan or b-12 INJECTIONS. Call the vet and see. You don't always have to have an appointment if you were just seen.
