Me my wife and my 4 year old daughter are planning on moving to New York City in a little over a year. My plan is to save at least $15,200 dollars to pay a year upfront for a studio in brooklyn ($1,100 a month I checked on craigslist) leaving us with $2,000 for food and other stuff till we find a job. By then my wife will have earned her associates degree in Paralegal Studies and I HAVE my Paralegal certification and pursuing my Bachelors degree in Justice Administration so we are hoping to land a job soon after we arrive. I applied to see how the job market is and they called me in less than a week after applying from Brooklyn and from Jersey so I either got really lucky or there are a lot of jobs because they called me all the way to El Paso, Texas. *Is this a good plan? *Do we need to save more money? *Should we live in another Borough maybe Jersey but close to New York cause if we cant live there we at least want to work there? I don't mind living in a studio just to get settled because the statistics are people usually return home after a year. Please any tips would be great cause like I read in another page ''You want to live in New York not work in New York''
Well, the dollar amount is a good start, but the planning is piss-poor. It almost seems as if you've never lived on your own. $15k will help hold you over for a little while, while you search for a job, but it is preposterous to think that it will cover your rent for an entire year. Sh1t happens. You can't live your life on a paper plan. It's also insane to think that $2k will feed a family of 3 and cover "other stuff". What about utilities? You still have to pay for gas, electric, phone and basic living expenses. You'll also have to pay for public transportation unless you plan to bring a car, which is a whole other matter (gas, wear and tear, insurance, etc.). What about school expenses? Public school may be free, but other things are not. What if one of you gets sick? You can't predict everything. As far as "lots of jobs", you are misinformed. The job market is not good here. Sure, there are opportunities, but there are more people chasing them. There are almost 10 million people in NYC. Many of which have been "hoping" to land a job "soon" after losing their last one. What makes you think you'll have a better chance than them? Speaking of statistics, we;ve also got 40,000 homeless people (including families), Finally, why in the world would you want your family to live in a studio apartment? Were you planning on sleeping in bunk beds? Do you think it's a healthy situation to put your 4 year old child in? Here's the best advice you will get... And it's the most simple. Apply for jobs, send out resumes. Visit first and go on interviews. SECURE a job and THEN plan your move. That $15k should be something to fall back on if your new job doesn't pan out, not the other way around. What's the rush? Stay in El Paso until you have a solid reason for coming here. Don't just move on a whim.
Let me give you some hard truths here buddy: -A studio in Brooklyn is literally a hole in the wall. And for $1,000 and on an unreliable site like craigslight? Crap, crap, crap. A studio is not big enough for one person, especially with that price, it is not going to be enough for three -$15,200 seems like a lot of money, but it will go by pretty fast. $2,000 until you find a job? That will last a couple of months, probably less. -Most people think you need to live in NYC to work there. That is a lie. You can live in New Jersey. It is much cheaper. You have a child. I suggest you move to a town that is close to NYC. A town where you can get a house or a condo for you, your wife, and your baby. Not some dingy apartment in Brooklyn. On the other hand, do not live in utah if you are not going to work there. That is so stupid. I don't know why people do that. -Are you ready? How much do paralegals make, I mean really? Not trying to be mean here, I am just being honest. -Don't move to utah and think you can find a job when you are all settled in. It doesn't work like that. You don't want to be homeless.
No. Once you have job offers, then you can look for a place to live. It's going to be difficult with so little education and, it sounds like, no experience. A studio apartment is not big enough for three people. It's one room! I wouldn't rely on Craigslist to find a place to live - too much chance for scams. You'd also have child-care expenses, of course. And, you'd have to be careful where you live because you'll want a good school for your child. Have you ever BEEN to NYC? Not everyone can live there. It may sound exciting, but it takes a certain attitude to be able to live there. You can find out when you go for the job interview. Spend a week or so visiting possible neighborhoods and apartments and see how much things really cost, what the "vibe" is, what the schools are like, etc. Good luck!
Why would you want to take your daughter out of Texas to bring her to a cesspool? I don't get it. Either way, utah is no joke, my friend....expensive, expensive, expensive....you will not last in a small studio apartment, plus, some landlords will not allow 3 people in a studio. utah can be quite treacherous legally. Why not try Mass.? Definitely a little cheaper and more legal opportunity. utah is cutthroat, expensive, and your paralegal will be going up against the best of the best in utah - you would have to live here for a few years before you know the ropes like a utah paralegal. you may want to rethink this one. you'll need to save a lot more money and find a more suitable apartment. you would be a fool to come here without any employment commitment. how about either you or your wife come alone, see if you can find employment; if you can, then send for your family. i don't think your plan is that well thought out, it seems more impulsive not really knowing the reality that is utah best of luck to you.
New york is not always an easy place to live in! your plan seems good and planned out and 2000 for food etc is a good starting budget. you should also look into and online jobs were you could earn some extra money , also my advice for your daughter is start looking out for good preschools becuase you dont want to have rush when its time for her to start school and it could force you to move to a diffrent place. As long as you pre plan for everything you wil find that thing will run smoother, so now your already getting there by setting a budget and everything.
You want to live in a studio apartment with your wife and a FOUR YEAR OLD CHILD??? If you want to be one of those "statistics who returns home after a year", that's a good way to start!!!! In fact, I doubt you'll last that long with that set up! (And, BTW, WHAT statistics??? I've never heard any such thing and I've lived here for over 30 years.) If you really want to try out living here, don't come ready to leave. Find an apartment you can live in - all three of you. Get your kid into a good public pre-k program. Explore local playgrounds. Make friends here. Try to make a life for yourself here. Otherwise your setting yourself up to hate it here.
Nicely one, confident you need to. you mustn't permit every physique end you from making your dream come genuine. and in the previous you bypass there, your desirable guess could be to discover a activity in the previous the flow. yeah you may wish money saved up, yet having a activity interior the city will purely make it that somewhat extra helpful. if i've got been you i could do it. & you need to start by potential of having a activity set up obtainable, and looking out in specific areas of the city the place you may elect to be. seek on line for crime costs besides, when you consider which you opt to be arranged and secure. then permit anybody comprehend what you're doing, and plan a occasion with your human beings and kin so as which you will delight in your self and be with the human beings you adore in the previous you bypass. sturdy success!
