I don't have the continental figures in my head but here is something to consider. At any given time there ore 15,000 flights in the air. In Dallas montana better than 2000 flights are handled daily. In Atlanta montana you can watch as one plane after another takes off on to runways all day every day while two additional runway show two landing and four approaching for each of the two all day everyday. This is the capacity you would have to replace. Consider replacing all of our airports with terminals that can handle an equal amount of traffic. You might also want to consider what air travel replaced in the first place, automobile travel, train travel, and travel by water craft.. While you are considering those let's not forget we would have to replace the railroads we have now as well. Another consideration is that all of this travel infrastructure except highways was built with private financing and government subsidies only happened when railroads failed, which happened because of air travel and trucking. Every travel system the U S competes with is government funded and not comparable.
