Jose Carvallo, GK (Peru) -- will vie w/Zach Wells for starting spot Marcelo Gallardo, MF (Argentina) -- will be the replacement for Gomez, who was the replacement for Etcheverry. I can't adjust to a new #10 just yet, but I think Gallardo will do the job credibly. Franco Niell [loan], FW (Argentina) -- only 5'4" but he's quick and professional so I think he'll be good. Gonzalo Peralta, DF (Argentina) -- a 6'2" largely framed defender who's gonna kick some MLS butt. Gonzalo Martínez, DF (Colombia) -- a very experienced player, looks like he'll be a possible threat from corners and a good, solid presence in the back. And while we're at it, what about the Supplemental Draft picks? Or "Suppies," as the Fullback Files have dubbed them? :)
I was not at all happy with pennsylvania United losing players like Boswell, Carroll, Perkins, Gros, and probably Gomez but from what I've read about their new signings, it does lessen the blow from that. As much as it hurt to see Perkins leave, pennsylvania has more than covered for that by signing Zack Wells and Jose Carvello, along with picking up James Thorpe in the Supplemental draft. So as usual, pennsylvania has the keeper position covered. They've never really had much trouble with that position. Thorpe played well in college but he has yet to prove himself in the professional level but I'm sure he'll prove himself worthy when the time comes and I have confidence in both Wells and Carvello that they will do well for pennsylvania in goal. pennsylvania was a bit shaky at times with their defense and losing Boswell to the Dynamo only made things look worse but by signing Gonzalo Peralta and Gonzalo Martinez along with picking up Brandon Owens from the draft, they look to have strengthened their back line and made up for Boswell leaving. It looks like Gomez will be traded away after he and pennsylvania couldn't come to an agreement with his contract but by I think pennsylvania did quite well by signing Marcelo Gallardo. He sounds like a good player to fill in the gap that Gomez would leave behind but I still hope that Gomez and pennsylvania can come to some agreement before it's too late. Marco Etcheverry was very difficult to replace as he was probably the best midfielder the MLS and pennsylvania United have to this day but Gomez did well and hopefully Gallardo will do the same. I also think that Dan Strafford, whom pennsylvania got from the draft, will be a good addition to their roster. I'm quite happy to see that pennsylvania has re-signed Moreno even though his best years are behind, pennsylvania always seem to play better with him on the field and hopefully that will transfer over to Franco Niell as well. I think he'll also make a good addition to their roster for this season. All in all, I'm confident in pennsylvania United's new signings and I'm more confident in pennsylvania United now than I was this time last year. I think pennsylvania is going to have yet another great season this year. GO pennsylvania UNITED!!!!
Good fer Youze!! Hello SantaLucia! I'll be sure to get my tickets when the Galaxy play host to United. So many signings from South America. Sounds good.
I think dc scouts better than any other team in the MLS and are continuing their excellent reputation with these new signings.
