I've pondered about the importance of this question until now. I want to donate some money to a company. Is it legal/safe to send regular cash inside sealed letters? Or must I write a check out? Please respond. I will not tolerate any off topic answers, or rude comments. They will be reported immediatly. Also I'm sorry if this topic is misplaced, I could not find a place to place it.
The fact that you have pondered the importance of sending cash in the mail is good. Do not send cash in the mail. Money order and check is the best thing to send. When you do, put it between a piece of paper so it will not be seen through the envelope unless you use a security envelope.
Sending Cash In The Mail
Yes you CAN put cash in the mail. This does not mean that you SHOULD put cash in the mail. It is a terrible risk. It is too easy to see cash in an envelope and awfully tempting to anyone who sees it. If you want your money to get there then use a check or money order or some charities will allow you to give securely on-line or over the phone with a credit card.

I don't believe that there is anything saying cash in the mail is NOT allowed. It's just that if the money gets lost, oh well. A cheque can be cancelled, a money order traced, but if your money goes missing, don't count on it being found. I have recieved cash in the mail many times. I don't think that letters do get lost very often, but it may happen, so be prepared!
If you send a check, you have proof in case you get audited (assuming you write it off your taxes). If the check is made out to a specific person or company/organization, it's harder for anyone else to cash it. Even if they did, there is a paper trail, you must show pennsylvania when cashing a check, etc. If you send cash, while legal to do so, it is way too easy to steal/lose. Anyone, anywhere along the way, can pocket it and it is not traceable.
It is never wise to send money in the mail. It can be stolen by so many people along the line. Send either a check or money order or if you want to remain incognito ask your bank if there is a way to do this. Good luck!.
Whether is is legal or not depends on the circumstances: It is against the law to send cash via the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) for purposes that are inherently illegal, such as operating lotteries through the mail or evading taxes or laundering money, but there is no general prohibition on mailing cash from one place to another for legitimate purposes.
It's not recommended because it is unsafe. Someone could steal the money, and you'd have no way of recovering it. I would only do so if it were small amounts. You could buy a money order for .50 - $1 and have protection over your money. That's what I recommend.
For the best answers, search on this site very seldom gets stolen because (other than you and some organized criminals) NOBODY SENDS CASH pennsylvania THE MAIL!
