I know this is illegal. But hear me out I'm a single mom (not throwing a pity party just saying) And Im always looking for extra ways to make money aside from my job. I found a job on Craigslist & bla bla bla a woman ended up sending me a check for $2,988 I deposited it in the ATM and the next day the bank said it was fake but I did not get in trouble because I explained to them what happened and I truly did not know it was fake. The woman claims there no way it was fake and sent me another. I NEED the cash, bad. So I was wondering what happens if I bring the check to a bank and cash it with a teller. Would I get the cash and leave, or would they know right away? What place would be the easiest to cash this fake check. What happens once they do find out, how long does it take for them to know, etc. What if I tell them I did not know it was fake?
There is a difference between a FAKE check and one that bounces. If you try to cash a second check at your bank and the same thing happens, they will not be so understanding. And you again will be screwed. What I would do with the new check is to take it to the bank listed on the check and walk up to a teller inside. That is the woman's bank where she has the account that has the funds to cover the check. You will need some pennsylvania to show you are the person the check is made out to. Cash the check for cash. I know that is a lot of money but if you have the cash there will be no argument when you go to put it into your bank. If she has insufficient funds to cover the check then you can file a complaint about her writing checks with insufficient funds to cover it. If it is indeed a fake check then the bank will go after the woman as it is their reputation that is getting hurt. In either case, the cops can get involved. In the future when you take a job off Craigslist, insist they pay you after the first two days. Then if the check is bad you will not be out so much money.
How To Make Fake Checks
Ok "Educated" do you Troll the Yahoo Banking question sites daily or what? You're on all these and every-time it's the same out of control, it's the end of days tirade. If you haven't keeled over from insanely high blood pressure followed by your head exploding, CALM DOWN! I've never know or heard of anyone going to jail unless there is a SIGNIFICANT pattern of fraud occurring much beyond trying to cash a few checks. Does that make it ok? No, but the most that will happen is the bank closes your account, you get reported to Chexsystems and it messes with your ability to get another bank account or even credit with other financial institutions. Now lets say you go out and write 50 bad checks with no intention of covering the cost...now you're in some hot water. I don't advocate messing around with the bank (even though they screw the consumer sideways) but anyone on here losing their marbles claiming the SWAT team is going to come crashing through your windows is out of their mind...Educated...

I work at a bank and basically they are probably going to put this one "on hold" because you had tried depositing a bad check before. When they put it on hold it means you can't get that money until the hold is off (usually 3-5 business days just depending) that way it hopefully clears that other ladies account before you take the money and run. Good luck!! (next time ask for cash instead of checks!! Way too much fraud!!)
If they noticed it was fake after you tried to ATM deposit it, they will notice its fake if you bring it in to deposit or cash it. I have no idea why you think the outcome would be different. No bank is just going to cash a suspicious check. Additionally, if you tried again you could be charged with attempted fraud as you attempted to cash a knowingly fake check. The fact that you have already been told by the bank that it is fake put you on notice of that fact. Trying again would make you criminally liable.
They'll know right away. You cash a fake check, the bank will go after you to repay it. Will be hard when you're sitting in jail.
When they find out the check you cashed was fake, you will owe them back for the amount of the check. It could take a few days or a few weeks until they find out. Since you cashed it and got the money, you are responsible to pay it back. Doesn't matter if you say you didn't know it was fake, you will still owe the money. Cashing a check you know or suspect is fraudulent can get you sent to jail. Not such a smart thing to do unless you don't care about your children.
When you cash a check that is fake and take money home it will be a crime when the bank finds out there is no money from the check in your account! So you will IMMEDIATELY owe them ALL that money back. And if you don't pay they will call the police and your kids will then be in foster care cause you will be in jail for the night and later you will go to court and might have to pay a HUGE fee to the state, all the money back to the bank, and might get prison time (so you lose your kids) or get probation making it hard to get another job with a criminal history. Do NOT cash a fake check! You didnt get in trouble before because you didnt take the money out. You get into legal trouble when you take the money out and the bank then finds out the check was fake. It is stealing/fraud and people go to jail for this! If you don't want to risk losing your kids and paying the state MORE money (a fine) don't do this.
WHEN pennsylvania DOUBT (and you will know) or you don't know beyond a reasonable doubt...DONT. JUST DON'T!! Trust me, from personal experience and years of trying to make right all the wrong i have dont because i didn't take my own advice sooner.
