I've been trying to find employment since april 8,2008. And i've tryed litterally everywhere in this town, i can't get a job outside this town b/c of transportation. Since i'm pregnant i feel like they don't want to hire me,and it's really stressing me out b/c i need a job fast. My fiance and his mother are working full-time, and he wants me to work part-time. But do you have any advice about what i should do? I was thinking about going on cash assistance but thats nothing but a joke, they want to give me $205 a month and find my own way to and from work, which will take all that money and more for gas. I'm living in shippensburg,pa. I'm 18 years old and 14 weeks pregnant and showing a lot. Any help?
Employers probably don't want to hire you for 2 reasons. They know you will be leaving not that long from now to have your baby...and they may think that you won't be able to work as hard as someone who is not pregnant. If they come right out and tell you they don't want to hire you because you are pregnant that would be illegal. That would fall under gender discrimination. The only option that might work for you if you have exhausted all of your other options is to get a summer babysitting job. There are still people who haven't lined up childcare for their children for the summer. You could probably find a job where you would go to someone house and watch their school age children while they are at work. Either put an add in the paper or put up fliers...or do both. Not only will it give you some extra cash, you will also gain experience with kids. And you should be able to babysit all summer without "popping" :) Childcare is expensive and it is better to be on the receiving end of that money. I babysat 2 little kids and made 150.00 a week and that was years ago. I am writing this from Harrisburg pennsylvania by the way. Good luck and I hope you find a way to make money before the blessed arival.
Well i really didnt look pregnant for a while, and at 14 weeks you shouldnt either. go to the maternity store and buy a nice outfit that could go either way. i dont know how much you are looking to make, 205 is more than i take home, so i am really not sure what your complaint is, i would try sit down office jobs or grocery stores, and to answer your question i got fired from a job when they found out i was pregnant but i also got hired at one ( through a temp agency) that didnt realize i was when they hired me, but i am not really sure they cared either
Yes and no. I had just got promoted when I found out I was pregnant, and then they demoted me GRRRR. I was mad, so I went back to my old workplac (different boss though) and asked for my old job back and they gave it to me right away. Some employers are down on pregnancy, some are not. Be honest with an employer (since you are showing) and tell them how long you intend to work for and how long you will take off work to have the baby. Good luck, its hard.
There are alot of jerks in retail and things like that who are afraid you will up and leave once the baby is born.. I was once visiting my old job buying some of their merchandise (not naming the store name) and a pregnant girl came in and asked if they were hirring and they said no. but as soon as she left the girl i used to work for smiled at me and stated they were hirring just incase i wanted to come back or anything.. funny thing was i was pregnant at the time just not showing yet LOL.. Try going on WIC or something they will help you with basic groceries like milk, cereal, and juice that will help you and the baby... then they pay for the babys formula once he/she is born.
You have awhile left in your pregnancy i would just keep going getting the applications and call after you have turned them in! good luck!
