Neway, Your answer made me giggle! (In a good way.) Obviously I want to attend the school with the best reputation and most challenging coursework. I have found all three schools to be about equal, based on my experience in speaking with the advisers and reading forum posts from students. I am simply looking for opinions on these three schools in particular, from a hiring standpoint. An education is expensive, even online, and I want to make the best use of my time, money and effort.
I have looked into University of Maryland and Penn State, which I am considering. It's ironic I'm even asking this question, as I already work in Human Resources and guess what? I HIRE PEOPLE! But I don't necessarily interview or hire applicants with the best education. I’ve turned away Ivy League grads to hire someone I thought would be more responsible, or with more unique experience to bring to the table. As a result, the business I work for has a team of close knit, enthusiastic associates who appreciate their jobs. We have an extremely low turnover rate and a huge amount of applicants to choose from to fill open positions. I am posing this question because I do understand I am in the minorit. A degree from a well-respected school absolutely looks better on paper. I realize there may be opportunities I miss simply because I went to school online. It is a risk I’m willing to take to obtain my BA online. I just want help in deciding which school would be the best choice of the three
In most hiring managers will perceive those type of school lower tier level. In other words, they dis-value their degrees in some extend. For example, if the hiring managers have the option of picking a candidate, they most likely go with candidate who graduated from well known university. I'm not familiar with Walden and Ashford but I have some knowledge about Strayer. The Strayer University tuition was a joke, in some cases it was more expensive than private college (well respected school)! And I heard story from someone who graduated from Strayer and had hard time of landing a job. Do some basic research on various board/forum to see what other past graduate had to say about the school. If you truly want go back to school through online then carefully research each college. Make sure that colleges that your interested in have approval from Department of Education and being a member of some association. Without this, the degree is useless. Even if college have one of this criteria, you need to see in hiring manger perspective, in other words if you were a hiring manager would you hire somebody with prestigious degree or someone with Strayer degree. They are better online college that you could take an advantage of. Columbia College in pennsylvania (www.ccis.edu -very cheap tutition) or University of Maryland etc...Do some basic research on it. Good Luck
The one that is most prestigious, has the highest reputation, and most recognizable.
