I have this computer and No I am not selling it. My grandma who raised me for 16 years bought this for me as a graduation present and she recently passed away. ALSO it is the last thing I own that is mine besides some clothing thats worth ****. pennsylvania and I steal internet from people with wireless. this is also a good form of communication, via email, and looking for work on craigslist. So to you people who tell others go sell your comp and quit bitching, yea your not so smart. ANYWAY. I have a job, I have been to about 17 interviews, I am young with not much work experiance. I can't seem to get hired and the job I do have (catering) does not pay enough for me to live. I am scrounging for food, running out of money to get to interviews via public transportation, walking, and I do have a car no money for gas and as of the end of the month my insurance will be canceled. I am educated, I did 1 year of college, had to drop out because I cant pay my loan, can't pay for books, and the whole no place to live no food. and I for some reason I dont receive full financial aid for housing and all of my tuition although I am independant with like no income. Its just a mess, I tried that route. I live with friends, sometimes in my car, never trying to burden people and over stay my welcome. I am at a loss, I cant get a job and im trying so hard, I can hardly feed myself anymore, its getting cold and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to get help. What can I do to find long term shelter?
I heard someone say that when they were homeless they would go to trash cans along the routes that kids walked to school, because the kids would often throw their bag lunches away in the trash and she would retrieve them and eat them. You could think about a cheap furnished room over a bar or restaurant, it's shelter anyhow until you can get something better. If you can sell your blood, some blood banks will pay, and at least that's some food money. If you go to a shelter (often churches have aid programs for people in trouble and sometimes you don't have to be a member to be helped) then watch your stuff very very closely. Sleep with your computer under your head or something, if you value it, and be very careful about your safety. But it's better than freezing to death. Online, try Googling "homeless services" and the name of your city. Public libraries are good shelter when they are open, and if you don't "look homeless" (scruffy, disheveled, dirty) nobody will kick you out and you could use the bathroom for a quick wash-up, again if nobody catches you. I'm so sorry for you, I was almost in that position myself and I found it terrifying.
Well you could go to the mayor. or anywhere that gives out general information so you can find out where some hostels are. You should also try to get back to college but also with a scholarship. I know it may sound bad, but if you were to tell the school of your circumstances they'd probably jump at the chance of having you as a student. It would be good for their rep. If you can try to find some relatives. Doesn't matter where they are. As long as they support you and you can get back on your feet with them Good Luck xxx
Well, that's capitalism for you. The first post was pretty good and had a lot of good advice. I'd also suggest that you read "Steal This Book" by Abby Hoffman, and "Steal This Book, Today". They're both radical books, but you can still get some valuable information from them. You can find them online in PDF form for free, google them. Peace
Get a second job.
