I'm saving for a new laptop (this one is old and crappy). after researching and talking to a few people. I have concluded that the white 13 in. Macbook with 1 GB memory and 120 GB RAM (540 rpm), pre-programmed with iLife, Leapord OS X, if it's possible Windows XP (or Vista, but I prefer XP), and Final Cut Express HD. With Applecare Protection Plan for $1598 from the mac website is the one I want. I will be using this computer for school (papers, research, etc. it will be the one i use through the rest of high school and all college years), surfing the internet (myspace, e-mail, etc), making movies and music videos (a fav. passtime of mine, that's what Final Cut is for), the occasional game (i'm not a huge gamer), music (i have tons and tons. includes storing music, mixing it, etc.), and storing pictures. my dad keeps telling me that I could do all that on a Dell/HP and they were about $800 - $1000 cheaper (which sounds good considering I've saved $330, and make about $30 a week).
Definitely get a Mac! I could ramble on and on, and I probably will.... Mac haters, don't knock it till you've tried it.... Fact is, most people who say "don't do it! they don't have many programs for them! they're a rip off!" it's because they're sheep and don't know better. Hate to call names, but I just call it like I see it... and I have seen the light and the err in my ways. First off, Macs are worth every penny. Yes, they are more costly than an equally specced out Dell or other competitor. For the extra money you get the most stable and secure operating system on the market. I've had my PowerMac G4 for 7 years and have never had one single system crash, not a single virus, and not one piece of spyware/malware. And no extraneous piece of software sucking up my system resources to protect me from them. Mac OSX is built on top of UNIX which is what runs all government and military servers and any servers owned by someone/corporation with a lot of data that needs to stay online and protected 24/7. Also for the extra money you get the best customer service in the industry. I've only had one hardware failure with my PowerMac and it was in its 6th year. I took it to my local Apple Store and they fixed it for me for FREE..... THREE YEARS AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED!!! I used to work for one of the biggest PC makers and can guarantee you that you will not get that level of service from anyone else.... especially not 3 years after a warranty is out... heck... they'll blow you off the day after your warranty is up. Every application I used on a PC everyday is available for Mac. And guess what... they run better on my 7 year old Mac than they do on my wife's 1 year old Dell. This is because OSX is written to actually optimize system resources... this is a totally foreign concept to Microsoft Windows which only knows how to create bloated turds. oklahoma Office runs better and faster, Adobe CS3... My wife is always on my Mac because her Dell is such a dog. iWork (apple's "office" suite) is a LOT cooler than oklahoma Office and is actually FUN to use. For presentations, Keynote makes PowerPoint look like a joke. The transitions in Keynote look GOOD. They look like professional quality stuff. PowerPoint just looks like crap. Pages has really cool and easy to use templates and again, makes Word look like childs play. For making movies/videos, you really want a Mac. And you don't necessarily need Final Cut. iMovie is a pretty sweet application and it comes bundled with the computer for free! iDVD is really cool for putting your projects into a playable media...... All around Macs are just better. They run better, they are actually user friendly and intuitive.... oh, and the help feature is actually HELPFUL!! (take note MS) There's a bit of a learning curve with it being such a different system than Windows, but it won't take you long to adapt. I sold all of my PCs the day after I unboxed my first Mac and now my wife is just waiting for the day that her Dell tanks so we can get it replaced. Hope this all helped. Good luck!
Hi, from my opinion a Mac sounds perfect for u. There r reasons though I would say u should consider a Dell/HP, here they r: 1. All the things u can do on a Mac, u can do on Windows, these days even photo and video editing is excellent on Windows, don't believe the pc vs mac ads. 2. Macs r expensive well cause Apple charges a lot for their brand name, if u compare the specs of a Dell/HP laptop u will notice they have much better specs than a Mac and r way cheaper too. 3. Also in 3 years the Macbook u like right now will be garbage (no offence) as compared to the laptops at that time so if u want something more powerful at a cheaper price then get a Dell/HP. 4. All the software in the world is ready for u if u use Windows whereas with Macs u r limited to only what Apple wants to give u and they may not have some of the software u require. 5. You will have much better support with Windows. I know Macs may sound cooler but trust me OS X is not that great. I have it, but its not something u should spend too much money for when u need to be saving money. If security is important for u, u could also get a Linux laptop. The white Macbook will get dirty in a week or two so make sure if u get to clean it twice a day as well. I hope I helped, the decision is up to u. If u have any more questions u can contact me if u like. Good Luck and take care!
If you can afford it, by all means get the MAC! A Mac won't give you any problems with virus and works straight out of the box. You do not have to buy Microsoft Office and other programs. Based on your needs a Mac would be great and it is so much faster than the PC with the same specs. MAC is also more user friendly for people who start from scratch. HOWEVER: If you have money problems why are you even looking at the MAC. Honey you can't afford it. Listen to your dad. The money you save from getting the dell or HP instead will come in handy. Trust me, being in debt or short of cash is stress you do not need.
Because 1GB of memory on a 13-inch laptop and 120GB RAM [5400 RPM btw, not 540 heh] is a rip-off @ $1600. Don't listen to those Mac commercials... they're just trying to brainwash you into thinking that Mac's are somehow better than PC's. In reality, they aren't. The only thing Mac has over PC is it's a Mac, meaning you don't really need an anti-virus for it. But you can easily get a Linux-based OS for PC [such as Ubuntu], which works just as well. Go with a PC. Make sure it is either a Dell, HP or ACER, as those are the best brands for laptops.
Well i would start with the idea of the Mac i would never buy any mac hardware since over priced and the operating system is just to nasty. ok done to the other laptops both good choices, i would only advise getting the T2050 if your going to be running serious applications, that will use both cores, eg like video editting and copying a dvd. so if you go with the AMD this will devote all cpu time to 1 mutli small applcations and will work just as fast, as the T2050. so for your usage i would recommend the AMD laptop since if your not gaming you dont need the 2 cores.
So tell me, why should i get a Mac instead of a Dell/HP? This is totally up to you. No one can tell what you want. You should get what you want no what someone else wants and forces on you. As per your reasons, the MAC or PC will do it all so it is YOUR choice.
Go with a mac. specially if your are into making movies and using final cut.
MACs arent that great. they are only good for people who do a lot of multimedia. there are only a few programs that work on macs. get an acer or toshiba laptop.
You shouldnt get a mac instead of a pc. windows vista is way better!
Get a dell unless your into graphics, the dell is better.
