You don't know me but I'm sure you know others like me. We are the people who live in poverty everyday of our lives. Last year my husband saw my uncle out(noone had seen him for some time) and he found out that my uncle had been living on the street. We took him in not knowing the extent of why my uncle was homeless-he was an alcoholic and had terminal cancer. Eventhough we barely were getting by we gave him a home and I took care of him the best that I could with the limited knowledge of the disease that I had. He was with us a year before succumbing to cancer and liver failure. The past year has taken it's toll on us mentally, physically, emotionaly, and financialy. The family refused to help pay for his funeral eventhough he was their brother and we were stuck with the bill. We took out a car loan to make a down payment on his funeral and have been trying our best since then to stay afloat. The beginning of june they turned off our water and now we are facing a car repo if nothing works out for us. Our internet is 2 months behind and I am sure will be turned off anytime.(I am not asking for help to keep the internet-it's not important to us) What I would like is to be able to take a hot shower instead of leaving jugs of water outside to get warm enough to wash up. Water back on would help alot! We only have the one vehicle between us and it would help to be able to keep it from being repoed. It would also help to get some groceries as we have been limited to potatoes, ramen noodles and instant oatmeal for awhile. What it would take to get everything caught up and get us back on our feet again would be about $500 dollars. That may not seem like much to you but it would mean the world to us. Our incomes combined is only around 1000 or so a month and after paying rent and utilities that doesn't leave much for gas and groceries let alone water. I used to have such a different outlook about this world but when your down it seems people like to keep you there. The ones I've came across has done nothing but ridicule me for taking my uncle in knowing the burden it would place on us. I don't regret it for one moment and if given the chance I will do it again for someone else in need. Please help restore my faith in humanity and help as you are able even if it's just some kind words of encourage ment or prayers. I will be able to get back on my feet again and I promise you what is done for me will be repayed to others! god bless
I'd like to answer a few comments. We both have jobs. i've tried to get help here but the food pantry offers can food(which I collect but it is usually limited to box macoronies, lima beans, sweet potatoes, and sometimes loaf of bread. Food stamp office gives $10 per month since we have no children. Tried to get the utility places to work with us-electric would and water wouldn't. Can't sell car as there is a title loan. If you want proof you could visit my myspace and see where I blogged the beginning of june when they wouldn't work with me and turned water off. I also don't know how I can send proof of paystubs as I don't have a fax machine or scanner. : ( To the ones who responded nicely thank you for the encouragement. To those who wasn't nice I pray you never have to see this side of life yourself. True giving comes from the heart. firstname.lastname@example.org paypal info

I don't know your location, so I will have to be very general in my suggestions. There are numerous releif services available in towns all across America. First, find a food bank. They will see that you get some actual food. Second, contact all of your utility companies and see about getting on one of their assistance plans. That will either pay the bill or at least seriously reduce it. Go to your local human services office and ask for help. Every town calls it somethiing different. If you can not find it in the phone book, then go to your town office or city hall and have them direct you. Stop at your local hospital and ask to speak to a social worker. They will be able to give you contacts. The salvation army will probably pay your water bill, even if just once. Your local social services department should be able to direct you to some assistance. And at this time of year, farmers generally have surplus food and need help. Offer to work for a couple of hours in exchange for some fresh produce. Did you file with Social Security for your uncle's death benefit? It would help cover some of the money you had to spend on the funeral. Talk to a local church. Larger churches generally have funds for helping people in your situation. None of these will cure your problem. But each one will take care of a small piece of it, and even a small bit of relief will make it easier.
I am so sorry to hear of all your misfortunes. You are saints for taking in your uncle and sacrificing so much for him. I listen to Dave Ramsey on the radio everyday. he has been through a lot and helps many in your situation. Go to a library and look for his book Total Money Makeover and hopefuly it will turn your life around. He preaches to pay the essentials first, such as house, utilities (lights and water) and then give whatever you have left to the rest of the bills. The bill collectors will try all sorts of scare tactics. They are full of lies and threats, so don't listen to them. Budget your money and control it so it doesn't control you. Know where every bit of your money will go at the beginning of each month and stick to it. Based on your income, sell your car (before its repo'ed) and get a "garage sale" car (pay cash for it). There's hope, so keep your chin up.
I wish you the best. Just remember that God would never give you anything that you can't handle. Anytime I'm in a hard spot I remember that everything happens for a reason, God has a plan for all of us. I know this isn't going to help you financially but you have to have faith that everything will work out. I respect you for helping your uncle. I would have done the same thing!
You need to visit your local social services or various local churches who provide assistance for people in your situation. They can also teach you how to budget as letting you're water get shut off but being only 2 months behind on internet shows you probably need to learn how to prioritize expenses and anticipate them. Also if you are both working full time even at minimum wage you should have 2028.00 a month. So something is not adding up.
Instead of being online you should be out working. Sell your computer and find a second job...I cannot believe you actually think people would pay your bills. If this is on the level contact social services, your local church etc. Most people are not in a position to give you money I am ...but I can smell a scam a mile away.
I've been there. I know how hard it can be. First of all the utility company work with groups that help people with their utility bills. Like Heap is in my area.because you have utilities that have been shut off or are in danger of being shut off, you it priority help. Second if you have a Salvation Army org. near you call them. There are food banks. Do a search on the Internet for low income assistants.
You sound like a very kind person. I don't know what you think of this idea, but run it by your husband. File bankruptcy. Get rid of everything you can't pay for and start again. That may help. If it doesn't, someone may have to get a different and better job. I wish I could help you, but I have oklahoma and barely get by myself. God bless you and I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
Send me all of your financial info and I'll be glad to do what I can to help you. I'd like to see monthly bills, check stubs, etc. just to verify that you are telling the truth.
