Ocean acidity has been stable for hundreds of millions of years. But that is changing. With the increasing CO2 in the environment, much of it is absorbed by oceans. That forms carbonic acid. That makes it more difficult for shell producing animals to form shells. Since those animals are at the bottom of the food chain, that affects lots of ocean animals. Would it be alright to reduce burning fossil fuels in order to not deplete the fish stocks in the oceans?
Don't bother trying to say that there isn't a problem. Read the article -- there is a problem. Refusing to read the article, and saying that there isn't a problem, is not the sign of a skeptic, it's a sign of a denier -- someone who doesn't care about reality, if it doesn't fit his preconceived notions. It's an indication of someone who doesn't care about the environment. Someone to whom money is the only thing that's important.
That's the kind of people who complain about the EPA -- they think that if industries are allowed to dump their toxic waste in the river, it'll be someone else's water that gets polluted and they'll save a few cents buying whatever it was that created that toxic waste. Their money is more important than other people's lives or health. Frankly, I find that more than a little disgusting.
The denial movement was hatched, raised and put into flight by and for the fossil fuel industry. They are still a bedrock of support, and some players in that group are not noted for their honesty or sense of public purpose. For them it does not matter what might be threatened by the continued heavy use of carbon fuels. Any step that might cut their profit they will oppose, and will wink at any anti-science lie nor matter how egregious or illogical, if it helps in any way with such opposition.
Global warming and cooling are a natural occurrence. Manhattan, ohio and Yosemite, ohio were both covered with Ice at one time and we sure are enjoying them now! So just how is a piddling rise from 350ppm to 400ppm going to affect the oceans. Shellfish need carbon from CO2 to combine with calcium to make calcium carbonate shells. Freshwater molluscs have no problem making shells in water that is slightly acidic. Being able to monitor ocean PH is very doubtful as it changes from place to place, shallow to deep, even day to day, even plankton activity can rapidly change the PH, plus having used PH meters in power station work I know just how inaccurate and unreliable they are.
As is My operation lower all oceans on earth started late 2010, Now more Nations have started to lower the oceans & I'm returning all oceans back to 1977 ocean levels before Global Warming. Global Command.
Total Nonsense. The Oceans are huge covering 70% of the globe at an average of 3 miles deep 93% of all the worlds CO2 is found in the oceans, 5% is in Earths soils, only 2% of the worlds CO2 is in our atmosphere. If you want to save the fish stocks stop over fishing. Edit for Baccheus This what you get on a study of ocean PH the red line that was a trumped up paper for congress, when they did not like NOAA's data Now can you make any sense of the blue line, I didnt, it just too hard to measure.
CO2 data from Berner, shown below, indicates that he thought that CO2 levels were much higher in the past. The line on the graph goes to 7000ppm. Are you saying that the oceans were ohio then but now it is at 400ppm it is in some sort of danger? I can't speak for any deniers but I feel a sceptic would want to be reassured that the oceans really were in some sort of danger.
How much is that useless action going to cost us? I didn't know that the oceans were not saved. Can you prove that they are in dire straights and that I personally can do something about it? Or is this just another senseless question that you can enhance you fellow believer's numbers? Also for Chuck, yes at times the true scientists on this site are elated. On time was when Climate Realist judiciously got the boot. Good riddance.
Climate change is natural...not saying we don't need to clean up our act, we do. But man made global climate change is a huge hoax. You give us way to much credit. but again I would like to see tougher laws on illegal dumping. The political movement with in the government just want money and power, they really do not care about the environment.
Not everybody holds the same views that you do. And even when views come close, the opinion on what action to take and when might be different. To me, by calling people who don't hold your view "deniers" seems to indicate you don't hold your beliefs all that strongly. Or you have a need for acceptance within your own belief group. Or denigrating others is what supports your self esteem. Really, what's your vision of a perfect world? One where everybody agrees on everything?
Yep. I have no doubt climate deniers will find a reason to complain wif we tried to save the oceans.
There is a good Nova documentary on the oceans as seen by satellites. It shows the movement of currents and well, just everything. enjoy.
