My 5 year old cat Tank is not well. He has scabs all over his head, neck, chin and tummy. That will not go away. He has lost weight and his personality has gone from "day to night". He went from being the most sweet, outgoing, attention loving, lap cat ever. But now he wont get near anyone all he does is sit and stair. If I go near him he starts ducking down and gets stiff and some times he'll hiss at me. I dont understand cause before he was crazy about me. He was like my shadow. Couldn't sleep with out me. He was lost without me. But 6 months ago the scabs and weight loss started. But the personality change slow started changing within the past 2 months. And Its so hard to see him like this. I miss his so much. I just want my "Tanker Boy" back. I have tried flea treatments. Not only on him but I've treated the house as well. I've changed food thinking it might be that. Ive put neosporin. Nothing works. I have another cat as well she is from the same litter and nothing is wrong with her. And my biggest problem is I have not job and NO money at all. I know I need to take him to the vet and I want to but cant when i have no money. Does anyone know what i can do to help my best friend in the whole world get better before it to late. Or if you know any place that can help at no cost? PLEASE I'm begging for your help. ASAP!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!
You should add your location. just in case someone has ideas for that city. Im'sorry Tank is so ill. but nobody here can diagnose him over the Internet and tell you some remedy to cure him. And if they do, frankly you should ignore it, you should not spend more time and money on guessing and buying this or that OTC medicine instead of getting him to a professional. It's already been 6 months. I'm not trying to be mean, just trying to emphasize that at this point you have to either get him to a vet somehow or give him to a shelter even if it means putting him down, because he is clearly suffering and it is cruel to let it go on. I really hope it won't come to that though! I hope you will be able to keep him, get him treated and he will get better and things will get goig better for you. . If you still have managed to maintain decent credit you might be able to qualify for Care Credit which is a loan for medical bills and most plans have like a 6 month grace period! . You might have to lie and say you have a job but they approve so fast I dont think they actually check. Obviously though if you do that you need to be able to eventually pay it. but hopefully over the course of a year or so you could come up with a little here and there to pay it. Have you thought about every thing you might be able to do, like are there any friends or family who would donate something or lend you some money that you could pay back when you get a job? now is not the time to be proud. you need to beg and grovel for Tank's sake. Or maybe you have something you can sell or pawn? Jewelry? Electronics? or even stuff like DVDs, computer games etc.? Some way you can cut down on expenses? (live on rice and beans for a while? cut out some subscriptions or services ) It is not going to be easy to get it totally free though and with the economy a lot of charities are having a tough time so i dont know if any of the following will be able to help but you should give it a try right away. I hope by some combination of things you can get him to the vet. If the owner is elderly, disabled or on a fixed income, the cost of care may be too much of a stretch for their pocketbook. Perhaps they have been victimized by crime, property loss or a job layoff and are experiencing a temporary financial hardship ? making it too difficult to afford pet care. And some animals, brought to clinics by Good Samaritans, don't have an owner to pay for treatment. Whatever the situation, the fact remains the same: When sick or injured animals are unable to receive veterinary care, they suffer. Through the AAHA Helping Pets Fund, veterinary care is possible for sick or injured pets even if they have been abandoned or if their owner is experiencing financial hardship."
It sounds like your cat has a bad upper respiratory infection. you're going to need an antibiotic. I as well would say call your vet & ask about a payment in a week or so. Maybe call your local spca & see if they can help with the meds for a few days. the worst anyone can say is no. In the mean time, try to keep his eyes & nose clean, (like a child with a cold). This isn't something you want to put off indefinitely. It DOES need treated with medicine.
My best guess would be the flea allergy. I have a cat that has it. Get rid of the fleas. Don't use grocery store products, they do not work and are toxic and potentially fatal to your pet. Use a good flea treatment like frontline plus. Get rid of the fleas in your home. Give the cat praziquantel. (Tradewinds tapeworm tabs available online) as it sounds like he has a huge tapeworm from the fleas. you really need to get your cat to the vet as soon as you can afford it though just in case it is something more serious. it's all just part of owning a pet.
If you really have no way to pay for your cat to go to the vet, I would recommend taking it to your local SPCA or a rescue shelter. Be sure it's a NO KILL shelter, so euthanasia is only a last resort. You might be out a cat, but at least you'd know your cat would have the best chance of recovery.
Try humane society, or find a vet that accepts payment plans or care credit. You need to do something though. Your not gonna get away with free vet care. If he had a bunch of fleas. He could have become anemic and may need a blood transfusion.
Vets will do a payment plan. That kitty needs a kitty doctor. As for the weight give him oil based tuna until you can get him checked out. Poor kitty :o(
Get like a job at McDonald's or something for a bit of cash then take them to the vets. Or if that doesn't pay enough get another job! Also If you don't want to work, borrow some money from people.
Wow what are you doing. If you do the wrong things it can end up poisoning or harming the animal more. And you waited months? Now there is probably even more problems. Just put the cat down to keep it from suffering from your treatments.
Can you ask your parents for some money to borrow?
