I am 16, I live in Ontario, Canada. I have had several online business ventures, have considerable experience in customer satisfaction and solving problems. I have strong computer and communication skills. I don't have much experience working under someone, just lawn cutting for a company that I can't get a reference from. All of that is on my resume. On the rare occasion that I get an interview, I always show up in business clothing such as dress pants, shined leather shoes, dress shirt and tie. It seems the harder I try, the less likely it is for me to get a job. I would start a full time summer business but I am lacking capital. I don't have anyone that can lend me money and can't get a loan. I just got turned down today for another job that I had an interview for on wednesday. I watch all of my friends around me getting jobs from doing next to nothing. I try so hard but no one will cut me some slack. I can't even get a job at a damn grocery store for crying out loud. I think it has to be something wrong with my resume. Can you please critique it and make annotations? This may sound like a strange answer but your resume is too good. Think of it this way, you are an employer at wal-mart, you don't want a computer programmer, or someone with allot of other skills as they are not likely to stick around for long. You need to custom tweak each resume depending on the job. Your resume sounds like you are 25 years old with allot of business experience. Now don't get me wrong that is fantastic! But it is not what an employer might be looking for. Just one extra tip, I don't like the: "To obtain a position that will enable me to use my strong communication skills, customer-oriented background and ability to work well with people." It is too impersonal you should say something like: "I have strong communication skills and enjoy working with people. I feel I could be a asset to any company as I have experience in dealing with customers and get on well with others" Hope that helps : )
Your resume looks great for a 25 collage graduate. For a 16 year old... a little scary I believe that the biggest reason that people look at your resume and don't give you a job is either because they think your lying or they are scared you will take their job. The Information in a resume should directly pertain to the job you are trying to apply for. Sometimes its better to look stupid and not have any skills. Just put down the basic information like good with people, good team player, good communication, and then go in with a smile. As far as web design feel free to contact me at C51@C51Creations.com
What's in it for me? That's what every single employer is thinking about. This goes against what we've been taught in school but it is not always about your accomplishments in what you've done (which is impressive actually). When your contacting a company for job yes your age is a little bit of a factor they like 18 and older . but I think if you talk more about how you can help them "get more, or make more, or do more. Show them the benefits they can get if they hire you. You do have marketable skills. Think about it from their perspective of yourself in their shoes they wanna hire somebody that is gonna help them do something or make more money. You to show them how you can do that, and I bet you'll land a job. I'm a marketing consultant these are methods I use on web sites I see no reason for it to work in selling yourself for a job
You're not doing anything wrong, it's just if they can hire someone in college to do the same thing as a 16 year old, they'll usually pick the college kid. It sucks, I know.
