Yesterday I got an FBI virus that wants me to pay $200 via some $ card you get at Walmart or Walgreens, anyway I need better computer protection. I was runnng avast but that did not stop the virus and I don't want to mess up another very expensive apple computer. What is the best anti virus program and do you know about any free ones? Anyway, I wasn't doing anything illegal just on ebay when I got the virus that completely locked computer up-thanks for your help in advance.
You say an Apple so the procedure is slightly different. FBI ransomware. this is one of the best sites for all malware infections. Check it out and you will be fine.
If you use a genuine Windows version, The best thing is Microsoft security essetials. If you want a free antivirus, I think avast is the best >The very best way is you should have a virus guard like, Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 Avast advanced protection ( Basic protection doesn't block spams) Symantec Nortan *(Symantec's codes were stolen few months ago)* I think you should buy a Kaspersky One. I have been using it since 2008. STILL NO PROBLEM. Good luck mate !
I agree with a lot of the below. First, the FBI thing is a virus. They want your money. As for antivirus software, it depends on what you want to get out of it. Avast is a great free program, but there is really no support provided unless paid for. I recommend a midwest based option called SecureIT. It actually runs off the Bit Defender engine and they offer it with full support as well. They can also clean the infection off and then get SecureIT installed.
I personally use AVG, and it hasn't failed me yet. It has a lot of useful features, such as firewall and real-time protection (which slows down your computer slightly, but is worth it). I realize a lot of other anti-virus software has similar features, but I've tried a lot, and have had the best experience with AVG. It detects and removes viruses that other software refused to. Also, a good program to have to compliment any anti-virus is Spybot Search & Destroy. Even this on it's own is really good.
Wow. In fact, I'm not going to post an argument. I've tried more AV than these idiots up here. Total herp-derps. Avast is currently the best one. "Why?" Avast has more features, like webprotection, as well as more than 8 shields RUNNING SIMULTANEOUSLY ohio REAL TIME MODE. avast means seriously business. However, avira has a better detection rate, not to mention a light weight system.... but since they are losing moeny, they decided to include the malware infested toolbar -- asktoolbar (spyware disguised as "askstub.exe" but infamously known as "askstupn.exe"... google it). therefore, avira is out of the list. Avg gained fame because of advertisements. otherwise, it sucks. the detection rates lag behind so badly as compared to avira and avast. norton, kaspersky, and mcafee are bad products. one must fully pay them in order to get the most benefits. but still, it's not worth it. i have many personal testimonies in why they suck. however, since you might not believe in me, why don't you go online and google: _____________ sucks trust me, don't get kaspersky, norton, or mcafee... unless you want to waste your money. even if you want to get them, get BITDEFENDER (best paid AV) instead. if you are a poor freelancer such as i... So, here are my suggestions for free softwares to protect your computer: Avast Antivirus. Near the top detecting software, as well as containing many features such as WebProtection. Zonealarm Firewall. Not as protective and good as Comodo Firewall, but it is much simpler, and doesn't block every single damn file you open as Comodo. Superantispyware. Protects your homepage from getting changed. Has an accelerated speed scan option. Detects many many adware and spyware. Malwarebytes. Detects malware better than superantispyware. Has another tool (File Assassin) that will delete any file that refuses to open. Spybot. Immunizes your browsers (only Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox). Has a tool (File Shredder) that "destroys" a certain file several times, so it will be permanently unrepairable. Also has a System Startup organizer (more advanced than the typical "MSCONFIG" typed in the "Run..." button). If you wish to know more, or you have any installation problems, feel free to contact me via my yahoo answers profile. thank you for your time. Avast: Spybot:
What ever you do do not pay the 200 dollars and if you want to get a virus program om mac then you need to get AVG that is the only one for mac well not the only on that is the only one that is free but if you want to pay then you can you can go to Norton virus protection or you can go to McAfee and those are goo but they hog the CPU usage but you should not have a problem with that because macs have intel core i5 and up like Intel i7 that is very goods you should not have a problem with any of that i wouldn't worry about that but if you want to be fully protected then i would get Norton or McAfee.
If you are looking for free antivirus then I would suggest you either use Immunet or Microsoft Essential. Both antivirus software are very good as far as free concerned.
Just reboot the computer and it should go away and delete the file.
