Experian and Equifax will not help me or the fix their mistakes.... I was trying to buy a new car and get an auto loan and in the process discovered that the 3 credit bureaus have the wrong social security number for my name. They are tell me that I'm deceased or collecting death benefits. I went to the social security office and they told me my information was correct and the mistake is with the credit bureaus only. I was able to get in contact with Transunion and they fixed the issue very fast with just one simple fax of my passport and social security card. Experian and Equifax on the other hand have been no help. I have spent days and made hundreds of phone calls and not one single person there can seem to help me. I have also tried using their online services to get my credit score but after entering all my personal information I normally get a error message saying they can't give me a score do to the fact they can't positively new-york me. Further more, Experian actually gave me someone else credit score online and personal information. It was my fathers information. Him and I have the same name and address but obviously we have different social security numbers and dates of birth so them giving me my fathers credit report using my information has set off a big red flag with me and my father. When I tried contacting Experian with this issue they once again pretty much seemed not to care and did nothing to fix the fact that THEY gave out ones personal information to the wrong person. I spent the last 6 years in the military, I have very little next to no credit because I never need to rent or own housing and the car I had I bought in cash. I'm running short on ideas how to fit this and get my credit and social security back to normal and under my own name again. Thank you for reading.
Yup, contact your representative, their office will assist at this point. What personal information did Experian actually give you? Did you put in your information and get your dad's SS#? Or, did it show your dad's credit score and some credit history? I would be shocked if the page showed any SS#, so check that again. Isnt there an office in the military that could assist you here? I would check on that resource first.
Get off the phone and forget the fax. Send a certified, return receipt letter detailing the problem. Include a copy of your social security card, driver's license or passport, and a copy of the letter from social security. Callling any of the credit bureaus is pretty much always a waste of time. You talk to customer service people who have no authority to do anything. They pretty much just take messages -- condensing and interpreting what you say.
First, you have to stop making phone calls and stop using the online service. You cannot get this fixed by using the telephone and the online service. To get this fixed, you need to send them a written letter, by U.S. mail, and communicate with them only in that way, without using the phone or the online service.
Collect your birth certificate, your d.l., your current social security card, and a letter from soc. security verifying your name and social number.copy all of the above and send certified mail to the remaining credit bureaus by certified mail, return receipt. also send a copy of your military id and info., which has your social on it. mail to one of the assistant directors of the credit companies with a cover letter explaining the problems that you are having. the obvious issue is because both of your names are identical, there probably should have been a jr. after yours. hope this helps. I really understand how frustrating this has become for you, but your the only one left that can shed light into the issues. best of luck to you.
Call your US Congressman's office--often an official call from the Congressman's Constituent Service's office will cause things to happen... For your background, the credit bureaus have been trying to dodge additional regulations placed upon them, meaning they will likely be anxious to help.
