When I complete my new-jersey in the spring, i will owe almost $315,000 in student loans and I will not be able to pursue the PhD in french literature that i dreamed about since i was a small child. This means I will not be able to become a professor and will have to work some stupid idle job that has nothing to do with either of my degrees. I am in danger of seriously becoming homeless in a matter of weeks. I cry about my student debt every night and i wonder, why have republicans destroyed our education system like this? This debt is NOT my fault and when I was taking out loans I did not realize what I was doing and how I was letting by letting evil Republican wall street robber baron banker fat cats control my finances. Why have they let the cost of college get so expensive? I guess my main question is, why have republicans continually blocked debt forgiveness measures? Why do Republicans want to take away my right to education?
In Wisconsin, Governor Scott Walker and the republican senate have cut funding to the educational system and the poor. This Christmas, he ran ads showing him and his family dishing out food in a food pantry for the poor. Republicans believe that people, not government should provide to their local poor and should be educating their children on their own through private contributions. I believe, Republicans want a return to the "fief kingdoms" of the middle ages, where the serfs relied on the charity of the Dukes and regional Castles protected by their private armies. But I could also be wrong. History will tell.
There's a little hyperbole here. Student loans have a low interest and are payable over a long period of time. It's the cost of higher education that has become obscene, and I don't know what the reason for that it, as it is rising much faster than general inflation. Republicans do care about education. They don't want sex education taught. A good many hate the theory of evolution. They perpetrate the Big Lie that the US was given a divine mandate to become a superpower and the bully of the world. They want American history whitewashed at every grade level. On a local level they want to stop teaching music and sports. Soon they'll demand segregation by gender, whether it works or not. They demand children recite the Pledge of Allegiance so they can become little robots. They want to eliminate free school lunches even for kids who have no other meal during a day. They're all compassion, those Rebpublicans.
A masters or PHD in french literature is only good for teaching, and that is not a lucrative JOB, that is something you do for love, not money. This debt is your fault, like stated above you had to do private loans as well as Government education loans. It is the democrats that insist on throwing more money at a system, that does not need money but has too many chiefs and not enough indians. They have thrown good money after bad for years. We as a nation spend far more money on education than other nations and have poorly educated people compared to other nations. You obviously have been educated by liberals, and bought it hook line and sinker. You should have started working some time ago and payed as you went to avoid this debt you will never get rid of. A masters is 5 years, 63k a year, you been living on these loans too, fool.
Wow, that's ridiculous. . . In Canada, you can get a PhD for around 100-150k. And every time you complete a degree or certificate, etc. you get a chunk taken off your debt. This is because each "stage" of education a person completes will generally result in higher earning potential, which means you'll be paying more taxes. In the end, as long as you finish what you set out to do, and get a degree in something useful, student loans really aren't a big deal here.
Education is Constitutionally given to state powers. It isn't a federal issue, and shouldn't be. All that does is add bureaucracy and spend more money on overhead than is needed. The US spends more per student than any other country, but we get less for it. That alone ought to tell you that the Feds have no business in it at all. Just an FYI: If you do PhD programs in science you are paid to do the research because it is worth something. Perhaps if you picked out something that was actually marketable you'd get alone a little better. I don't care if you want to waste your time on it, but don't demand to waste my money on it. And really....I'm not impressed with you griping that you are in debt that you chose to take on. Your choice, not mine. If it was a bad one, you ought to know who to blame.
You deserve it for getting a PhD in French Literature, you stupid liberal hack.
Max loan limit on gov't loans is $120,000, total over the lifetime. You took out private loans. Big mistake.
Because stupid people are easier to control.
They want to make sure that future generations continue to vote Republican.
Because they're religious and as we all know: Religion and education don't go together
