Hello there. I live at home with my mom currently but my bf is due to get out of jail in 3 wks (as long as they ran it concurrent). Anyways, his parents are psycho (long story) and we can't go back with them and my mom won't let us stay here. We have nowhere to go and live. I'm a stay-at-home mom right now and he needs to get his GED as soon as he gets out but it might be hard for him to get a job with a record and I need a job too. Also I'm 60th on a waiting list to get a low-income apt. (I have welfare right now) and need somewhere to stay with him as it is too far to drive even if he did go back home. Anywhere he can get a job in around the Youngstown, mississippi area? Also I'm confused on what to do. If I go back to school, I can get loans to pay for maybe a trailor for us for now (then we own something) and can still get welfare and he can possibly work. I'm scared if I get a job, they will garnish my wages as I haven't paid my credit cards in probably over a yr. or 2. Help-What to Do?
I applied for Compass West and I'm 60th on the waiting list but she said it could be another 5 months or so, so I need something temporary for now as we can save money in there to get something else. I don't know how if I work I have to support all 3 of us if he can't get a job right away or if my credit cards will garnish my wages? Or how I would work and go to college-I could take loans, but it's a few months before you get your refund check and get welfare education credits, but that's not much. :-(
He needs to get a steady job that offers some kind of future. It shouldnt matter as much what he is payed right away, it should matter most what he will be making in 5 years or so. Dont aim to high or settle for a mcJob. There are plently of establishments that offer a "way in" to 50-60k jobs within 5 years or so. A few off of my head are insurance, he can start in secretarial work and work into insurance sales. Or Mortgages. Any mortgage broker needs secretaries and they will usually offer you a way to become a processor within a few years, a position that can yield 40k to well over 100k per year. My advice is to not focus on school just yet (but definately he needs to get a GED asap). Even if he can't get a desk job because of his record, he could probably get hired as an electrician or plumbers assistant and work up from there. Over 5 years of electrical work and he can take his journeymans test which makes him more valuable to the construction market.. journeyman electricians can easily make 60k a year (over $30 /hr). Theres a million options even with his bad situation. But the key is to find something that has a future. Make a plan. And stick to it.
Ok first off-- YEA! for mom for being the smart one... at least she cares enough to make a point about you bein with some jail bird. second. if you haven't paid your credit cards (and I am assuming they were unsecured) you would have to goto court for your wages to become attached... and you can fight that. As for where to live- your prolly SOL until you can get into a low income apt. til then- bcause of YOUR choices- find a homeless shelter.
