Is this a good reason to go to become a lawyer? Hi, I am a junior in college and I have been thinking about going to law school for years. Friends have told me that I should become a lwayer because when I am pleading for something I look at both side of the story and I am not afraid of being the devil advocate. I am also very witty, good in debating and I have some sort of charisma to convince people. (I am not trying to brag. Just get help ) I thought about going to law school because I believe that everyone deserve the right to defend themselves. It does not mean that justice will prevail but I believe that we should give everyone a chance. I just watched Lakhdar Boumediene 's interview, he was jailed in Guantanamo for 7 years and was found innocent. His life story is fueling my interest in law school because I think that if I could be a good lawyer, I would do my best to get innocent people out of evil hands like the one that jailed him for nothing. While I believe that some of the prisoners at Guantanamo were maybe terrorists, I also believe that those who tortured innocent people in the name of Justice and stole years of their life should be punished for their crime whether it is for political or other reasons What do you think? The video below is Lakhdar 's interview after he left the jail in Guantanamo.

No, law school is not worth it, not for most people who go. Don't be like me and most of my law school classmates. We went to a tier 3 law school and graduated 4 years ago, but most of us have never been able to get anything but short term jobs. I did get a permanent job, but I was fired because I could not find enough work. Law is really a sales position. And I was not that good a sales person. I would say that about half of my classmates from law school are now in some other field. Most of them were only able to get some short term jobs. But that was not enough to pay the student loan payments. I am now working in retail sales. I still owe about 88,000 in student loans for that law degree. What really makes me angry is that my school sent out a brochure to me when I was deciding which law school to attend, and that brochure said that like 90 percent of all graduates who pass the bar get jobs in the legal field and that the average pay was something like 70K dollars. Well, I can tell you from talking to the people I went to law school with that the statistics for law school graduates are not anywhere near that good. Maybe 50 percent get jobs as lawyers, and most of those are the ones whose mom or dad were lawyers and hired them. So, why is it that the law schools can lie about how many jobs there are, when there are really nowhere near as many lawyer jobs as there are lawyers who want lawyer jobs? I did have some law school friends who started their own solo firm after they passed the bar. But man, only about 1 in 5 made it. 2 of them got sued for malpractice and had to go bankrupt.

Yes you may make a good lawyer, however, you may be better doing a degree in political science and consider being a political lobbyist. Lobbyist work in more political arenas, which seem to be where your passion lies, trying to push for certain agendas in Washington, indiana that they think are critical and important to the American public.
