My sister is a senior this year and we her, family, friends, and a couple teacher we've asked are looking up scholarships for her but we can't find anything. my family makes just above the amount for a financial need scholarship but we really do need the money because this past year we've had A LOT of medical bills for our mom and she has been unable to work but unfortunately tax returns won't even nearly put a dent in payments and any financial scholarships are based off of last years income not what we're dealing with currently. we could POSSIBLY get financial scholarships if my sister tries again next year for them but couldn't this year. so financial scholarships won't work. she is NOT left handed so she can't get that scholarship, she is 5 feet on the dot so she can't get a scholarship for being shorter because she is a couple inches too tall. our dad is practically 100% italian (his biological dad came from italy and his mom was mostly all italian as well) which makes my sister and i a high percentage as well (greater than or equal to 50% probably) but my dad doesn't know his biological dad so my sister can't prove how much we are italian. same goes for being cherokee indian (native american) we know it is in our blood but these scholarships don't require a certain percentage instead a signature from a 100% native american family member. we can trace back to exactly who that person is a few generations back but not so far back that my grandparents have direct memories of the person but the person is past away already so we can't prove we're native american with no signature according to them. she has an average GPA not the greatest and i'm not sure exactly what it is but it is for sure not below a 2.0 i want to say it is around a 2.5 or 2.7 maybe so not an awful GPA but not outstanding either so academic scholarships haven't been working either. also we've tried looking all over the internet and asking people and we can't find anything that she can apply for hardly. there was a scholarship for people who've gone through a difficult personal situation and she tried for it but didn't get it unfortunately. she is right handed, lives in florida, is a senior this year, loves to and is good at drawing, is a good writer though doesn't like to write, is 5 feet tall, wants to attend a local community college first though i think she's already tried there scholarships already too, she is in a CNA (certified nurse assistant)high school class right now but county just got the class a permanent teacher (in 4th quarter now) so we don't know if she'll actually graduate with a CNA degree like the class was suppose to do or what will happen but ultimately she wants to be a labor and delivery nurse which she'll have to become a RN (register nurse) first, she is also helpful and a dedicated hard worker. *does anybody have any suggestions on what to do? where to find scholarships? any specific scholarship suggestions? -all advice we are all grateful for besides give up
Archelios--- my sister wants to be a labor and delivery nurse NOT an RN she just will have to become an RN before being able to do what she really wants to do because that's how it works in that field of work. and my sister is not dumb when she wants something bad enough she'll go after it. and finally she already applied for FSFA that kinda went along with the tax returns and that we made too much last year to recieve financial aid this year. and i told you at the beginning many people are trying and looking for scholarships for her and have been for awhile we just can't find hardly any my sister can apply for.
Half the white Americans I meet claim to be "part-Cherokee" but can't prove it. Usually, this is just exaggerate or bogus family stories. There are no scholarships for Indian blood lore. Scholarships for tribal members are based on their citizenship in tribal nations, not for "blood." American citizens with financial need can qualify for Pell Grants, and you can take out student loans like I did, and all the Native classmates I went to grad school with.
I hate to tell you this.... but many schools & some states.... had deadlines back in Feb-March why are y'all doing this so late?....Juniors are told to start looking & keep notes... Seniors are told to start applying as soon as the start school in August has she applied for indiana state aid? here is a list: is where she applies: she wants to be an RN... her most cost effective option is to live at home & go the local community college & get her pre-requisite classes to apply for RN Program & then apply to all RN programs within the state... or at least within an hour's drive of the house she needs to know..... all over the country.... RN programs are VERY competitive..... if she doesn't maintain a 3.75 while in CC.... she is not likely to get into any RN program RN is a great career..... to get into RN programs it will take a great dedicated effort on her part... she will have to apply herself more than she has in high school if she doesn't make the cut to get into RN program.... then she could shoot for LPN EDIT TO ADD: I never assumed your sister was dumb --- you have made assumptions that are incorrect I was trying to point out that if she handles college in the same manner that she handled high school, then she won't make it into nursing school Because you (apparently) don't know many people who have tried to get into Nursing school.... you have no idea just how hard it is ----- sure, the nursing program says you need a 3.0 to apply & they will accept a 24 ACT as long a 19 was made in each area ----- that is just to be allowed application ---- but, schools have THOUSANDS of people applying for @ 25-50 slots..... they choose the best-of-the-best..... there are many Nurses in my family... my sister recently went back to school & graduated with her Associates RN last Spring ---- all of my family that went to nursing school got in on their first try.... because they did their research before they were in school & realized they would need at least a 3.75 to be competitive enough to get in Apparently your sister does not qualify for need-based aid (based on household income) & she won't get merit-based aid because she screwed around in high school..... her problem.... for whatever it is worth.... a labor & delivery nurse... is still an RN my mom, who was a neo-natal specialist... was an RN she then went to pediatrics... guess what.. still an RN then continued her education... got her bachelors & then her Masters... even though she is now in Management.... she is STILL AN RN my sister who is a cardiac surgical nurse.... is an RN
